I saw this couple on a jaunt downtown one day.  They were so comfortable with each other...both wearing their fanny packs and their hats.  I could tell they had been together for a long time.  I would imagine that they could finish each others sentences and read each others thoughts.  I also imagine that they carry sunscreen and snacks in their fanny packs...and anything else they need for their journeys.  

I painted with a limited palette...limited for me at least.  The colors were cad yellow medium, ivory black, white, cad red and prussian blue.  I chose those colors because it is what was left on my palette from my last painting.  I decided to use those and only added some flake white.  It was fun to mix the colors, especially the greens.  I hope to experiment with more limited palettes to help me achieve a more cohesive look when I paint.

I was fortunate to be asked to paint a friend's three children.  They are adorable...well, Alaura is adorable...the two boys are cute in a manly way.  

I met up with them at a nearby park and took lots of pictures.  The boys were swinging and climbing on the monkey bars and adorable Allura was watching and getting her walk perfected...with a little help from her mom!  It was fun to catch them in action and try to depict their personalities on canvas.

I belong to a group of artists called the "Hilton Head Gang"  We all met while taking Karin Jurick's workshop on Hilton Head island.  Every month we have a challenge.  This month's task is to paint where we live.  I thought long and hard before choosing this scene.  It is not EXACTLY where I live...but it is close...there are a few differences.  My house is not white..and maybe not as large...

Let the Commencements begin!  We recently attended a graduate school commencement for our lovely daughter in law.  It was a very nice ceremony on a beautiful campus nearby.  I was able to get some great resource photos.  I tried to capture the movement of the long, graduate school, sleeves and the loose free feeling of having just graduated!  The sky is the limit!  I always say reach as high as you can and then reach higher!  Such a fun piece and a nice remembrance.

I have seen a lot of painted beach scenes and I just love them.  The movement of the water...kids playing, birds flying, sunbathing, swimming, splashing.  I love all the techniques and variety of ways the scenes are depicted.   I am not much of a bird painter but I do love painting figures so you can imagine my delight when I discovered this gaggle navigating the dunes!
