The Hilton Head Mug challenge continues with Chris Werst.  

Here is Wanda's write up...

Another long time and well connected member of the Hilton Head felons is on the loose.  Chris “The Moniker” Werst resides in the same city as two other known perps including the nefarious leader “Quickdraw” Jurick and has been observed presenting her with gifts.  (The fact that the shawl was orange, a symbol of luxury and splendor, is highly suspicious.)  We also know she is quite cozy with a member of the international banking branch of the gang, not surprising since she herself is well versed in the global account management world.  With this kind of background one would expect her to drive a Porsche or Ferrari but she has cleverly decided to blend in with the locals by driving a station wagon.  However, do not be fooled by appearances as our intel suggests she is a world traveller.

“The Moniker” is a founding member of the elite splinter group, the Hilton Head 4, and continues to contribute to their rather shady activities.  She has immortalized parrots, puppies, and people from Paris in paint (NB. Actually it was seagulls not parrots but I digress…).  She has been seen combing the beaches in Hilton Head in search of victims and, with the Hilton Head 4, has co-hosted at least one large (and successful) gathering of felonious felons.  This is a dangerous woman indeed!

Here is Wanda's humorous prose...

Egad!  We have word that another of the notorious Hilton Head felons has a Canadian connection, eh!  Sue “Doc” Church Grant claims to have a Canadian birth certificate but an American passport.  One is immediately suspicious since Canadian passports are highly coveted by international bad guys.  It appears her felonious activities are rooted much closer to home. 

“Doc”, not unlike one of her fellow felons, has infiltrated the medical profession to get closer to her prey.  By her own admission, she enjoys capturing children.  We speculate she pokes and prods them and engages them in conversation.  She also immortalizes them in paint and we know she has displayed them in CAPE FEAR.  This is truly shocking! 

Although “Doc” claims to have left the more heinous aspects of this practice behind we know she continues to capture victims in both oil and water.  She also exhibits with the Back Porch Painters.  Does this mean she has moved on to more senior victims?  Or are puppy and his rabbit sisters in mortal danger?  We can only watch and wait.

This is the next Hilton Head Challenge member...I was a little behind but am getting caught up!  

Here is Wanda's assessment of Jeanne...

"Received notice that some sort of celebration went down on Ferry Road in Atlanta, Ga. on Wednesday.  Neighbours reported people were singing and yelling Happy birthday Jeanne but we not sure what that was all about.

In fact, not much is known about Jeanne “The Determinator” Dicasali, a relative newcomer to the sisterhood of felons.  This, of course, leaves the field open for speculation.  We do know she is very focused and determined but because she is unassuming often slips under the radar (a good trait to have as a felon). But be cautious – crime, like art, is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration and the quiet ones can often rise to the top through sheer determination.

To enhance her public disquise, Jeanne began to draw as an adult signing up for drawing blogs and tutorials.  We even discovered a lovely little watercolour of cherries allegedly by her.  It appears she has now moved to oil and surveillance has shown her in the company of Karin “Quickdraw” Jurick and the other Hilton Head felons.  Speculation is that she is likely to continue this practice.

She is also known to have international connections as her husband has been seen crossing the border into Canada often over the years.  We will stay alert in case this happens again.  She is not thought to be dangerous at this time but that could change.  Proceed with caution but proceed!"

The Hilton Head challenge is still going strong....but I am afraid I have fallen off the wagon.  Here is my attempt to almost get caught up!!! I have two more to paint and then I will be up with the rest of the gang!  Wanda Rottenfusser has done a great job with the story lines and getting the source photos out every week.

This is Lulu!  Here is Wanda's write up...

Regula (also known as Lulu) is a long time member of the Hilton Head gang and has recently joined an elite splinter group, the Hilton Head Four.  We do not know their true purpose but speculate that it involves creating original art and selling or trading it across international borders.   Lulu travels frequently under the guise of mild mannered artist to workshops or vacations in exotic destinations.  Her goal is ‘establishing individual connections’ and ‘transporting emotions’ which we suspect are for nefarious purposes.  She is often reported being in the vicinity when  shooting happens and we have heard rumours that the “Snoopy Guys” have become targets.  She must be apprehended and removed from the beaches.  Please duplicate the attached image asap and distribute widely.

I thought it would be fun to show you how I begin my painting process.  I start with a rough sketch...and I do mean rough.  I am not concerned with anything other than relationships.  The relationship between the nose, mouth, eyes, etc. I often don't finish the sketch...I just want to make sure I know where everything goes.  Here I can see that the mouth is not angled enough and I make a mental note to correct that when I paint.  I am anxious to start painting but know that this step will save me much frustration. 

And below is the mug shot of Lulu that I painted last year!  She was the second mug to be painted and I remember wiping the board twice before I finished.

This is the second challenge for the Hilton Head 4 group.  Every other week one of us sends out a source photo to be used any way we choose.  It can be cropped, chopped, embellished or not.  This challenge was my turn and I chose my favorite lady with the red jacket on.  I met her on the beach at Hilton Head and she was quite chatty.  I was amazed at all the detail of her life she discussed with me...a total stranger.  She was so eccentric she just fascinated me...and, of course, the red jacket was just too tempting not to paint!

Brenda attended the Karin Jurick workshop on Hilton Head Island and was a delightfully colorful character.  Her trademark round and square glasses were so fun...I think she has them in every color.  

Continuing with the Hilton Head mug shot paintings here is Wanda Rottenfusser's story...

We got a call from a citizen in distress in Kentucky who needs our help.  It appears she (and others) have been shot with a new canon (50D to be exact).  She survived the assault and identified the perpetrator as Brenda "The Designer" Pruitt.  This woman may look harmless and tries to convince people she spends her time painting her grandchildren and redecorating interiors.  However, she is not to be trifled with.  This woman knows where the bodies are buried (at least her husband does).  She must be apprehended asap to keep others from being victimized.  We need likenesses to post on the internet to alert the public.  Your assistance is appreciated.

While at Hilton Head taking Karin Jurick's workshop I stayed at a fabulous beach house with three friends.  It was a wonderful week and we hated to see it end.  As a way of continuing our "stay" the four of us decided to do a Hilton Head beach challenge.  Every two weeks we are going to all paint our own version of the same photograph from our Hilton Head stay.  So here are the first four!

The Hilton Head Gang rides again!  Mugs shots were once again taken at the Karin Jurick Workshop on Hilton Head Island.  Everyone tried to look as sinister as they possibly could.  So I am, once again, enjoying this challenge.  

It is another small respite from my 30 in 30 series, but I will have the final ones posted by the end of the week.  I install them on Monday!!!  And the reception will be the 23rd at Lorton Workhouse Arts Center from 5 to 7.  I cannot wait to see them all hung together!

Sedona Arizona Art Show is on!

Karin Jurick's workshop class from Hilton Head has sent in our paintings from (really) around the world, to hang together at the Sedona Arts Center Show, "A Sense Of Place", opening TODAY.  So if you are in the area, I promise you a visually enchanting experience, should you be able to visit!  The Hilton Head Gang have entered, almost as a whole.  And we are a Force to be reckoned  with!  My Swiss friend Regula Sheifele, one of the HHG, made this beautiful sign and I 'borrowed it' for my post!  Check out her work HERE.

This is week 5 of the search for the elusive Hilton Head Gang members.  The Hilton Head Gang is a group of notorious artists who attended Karin Jurick's workshop on Hilton Head Island.  I will feature one member of the group each week until they are all accounted for...

Kelley “MacGrins” MacDonald is the next notorious member to be sought.  You may think her smiling face is harmless...until you see your smiling mug on one of her blogs.  She waltzes in to a room, a beach, an event, smiling and acting all “I’m your friend” and then shoots at will.  She doesn’t leave until she has captured every available smile.  When ready leave the island...Suspiciously...her little red sports car was missing...she left Hilton Head in a newly acquired Jag shouting “Girls Just Wanna Paint!”  She drove up the coast stopping along the way to visit accomplices.  She has hideouts everywhere.  Beware the smile...

Diggin' it

It is a rainy dreary day here on the East coast.  I thought painting a beach painting would make me feel the warmth of the sun.  I still feel a chill, but I love this little boy and it did make me smile remembering my times at the beach.
